1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Protect wood products against moisture and dimensional changes, in accordance with instructions from treating plant.
1.7 WARRANTY
A. Manufacturer's Warranty: Provide manufacturer's standard 20-year limited warranty for fire-retardant treated wood.
B. Manufacturer's Warranty: Provide manufacturer's standard 50-year limited warranty for pressure-treated wood.

2.1 MANUFACTURERS

2.2 MATERIALS
A. Dimension Lumber: As specified in Section 06100.
B. Structural Plywood: As specified in Section 06100.
C. Finish Lumber and Plywood: As specified in Section 06200.
D. Fasteners: For treated wood and where wood is in ground contact, subject to high relative humidity, or exposed to weather, provide steel fasteners with hot-dip zinc coating per ASTM A 153/A 153M.
2.3 PRESSURE TREATMENT OF WOOD

NOTE ** ACQ(R) Preserve(R): Environmentally designed treatment that protects against rot, decay, and termite damage. It is free of arsenic and chromium and does not require special handling of refuse.

NOTE ** UltraWood(R): Includes water repellent in preservative treatment to fight checking, cracking, spitting, and warping. 50-year performance warranty.
NOTE **
NOTE ** SupaTimber(R): Clean and odor-free pressure treatment contains waterborne arsenical preservatives; requires some precautions in use and handling.
NOTE **
NOTE ** DesignWood(R) SupaTimber: Prefinished preservative treatment includes redwood color to eliminate the need for applying paints or stains.
A. Preservative Treatment for Above Ground Use:
1. Treatment: ACQ(R) Preserve(R).
2. Treatment: UltraWood(R).
3. Treatment: SupaTimber(R).
4. Treatment: DesignWood(R) SupaTimber(R).
5. Use 0.25 lb/cu ft (4.0 kg/cu m) retention.
6. Kiln dry after treatment to 19 percent maximum moisture content for lumber and 18 percent for plywood.
7. Treat wood in the following locations:
a. In contact with roofing, flashing, or waterproofing.
b. In contact with masonry or concrete.
c. Within 18 inches (450 mm) of grade.
d. Exposed to weather.
e. Other locations indicated.
B. Preservative Treatment, Ground and Fresh Water Contact:
1. Treatment: ACQ(R) Preserve(R).
2. Treatment: UltraWood(R).
3. Treatment: SupaTimber(R).
4. Treatment: DesignWood(R) SupaTimber(R).
5. Use 0.40 lb/cu ft (6.4 kg/cu m) retention.
NOTE ** Use 0.60lb/cu ft (9.6 kg/cu m) retention for utility poles.
NOTE ** Use 0.80 to 1.0 lb/cu ft (12.8 to 16.0 kg/cu m) retention for pilings, per AWPA Standards.
NOTE ** Use 2.50 lbs/cu ft (40.0 kg/cu m) for salt water marine pilings.
6. Kiln dry after treatment to 19 percent maximum moisture content for lumber and 18 percent for plywood.
7. Treat wood in the following locations:
a. In contact with ground.
b. In contact with fresh water.
c. Used as posts, landscaping timbers, retaining walls, piers, or docks.
C. Preservative Treatment for Wood Foundation Systems:
1. Pressure-treat softwood lumber, timber, and plywood for wood foundation systems with waterborne preservatives to comply with AWPA C22-96.
2. Treatment: ACQ(R) Preserve(R).
3. Treatment: UltraWood(R).
4. Treatment: SupaTimber(R).
5. Treatment: DesignWood(R) SupaTimber(R).
6. Use 0.60 lb/cu ft (9.6 kg/cu m) retention.
D. Fire-Retardant Treatment:
1. Lumber: Comply with AWPA C20.
2. Plywood: Comply with AWPA C27, Type A.
NOTE ** D-Blaze(R) fire-retardant treatment can be used in a variety of interior applications where the humidity is not expected to exceed 95 percent for prolonged periods and where the wood is not exposed directly to weather.

PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION
A. Framing and Sheathing: Comply with installation requirements in Section 06100.
B. Millwork and Trim: Comply with installation requirements in Section 06200.
C. Fire-Retardant Treated Wood: End cuts and drilling are permitted. Do not rip or mill lumber or plywood after fire-retardant treatment.
